2022 Official Dates: for the Itzulia Basque Country, Itzulia Women and San Sebastián Classic

The 2022 UCI World Tour calendar will feature the Itzulia and Classic men’s events. The Itzulia will be held 4-9 April. The San Sebastián Classic will be held on 30 July. In women’s competition, a new race has been announced, inheriting what was the women’s Classic, but held over 3 days, ending with a circuit very similar to that of the Women San Sebastián Classic 2021. The dates for this event will be 13-15 May, right after the Vuelta a Burgos Feminas. With these dates, women’s professional cycling in Spain aims to become stronger, creating a block of races to promote it and serve as a point of reference during this time of the year.

The Itzulia Basque Country will have a women’s version

In 2022, finally, the Itzulia Women will become a reality and will debut in the UCI Women’s World Tour category. The Itzulia and women’s cycling continues to grow with this project. Following the disappearance of one of the most important races on the national women’s calendar, the OCETA searched for a way to bring back women’s cycling in Basque Country on the highest level.

The Itzulia Women will be held 13-15 May. This 3-day race will travel through all three territories of Euskadi, finishing in Gipuzkoa. This last stage will replace the Women’s San Sebastián Classic on the calendar.

‘We are very excited about this new race, last year it was difficult to find the necessary support to carry the race forward, but this year there is a greater commitment. Euskal Herria deserves to return to the highest level in women’s cycling,’ says Julián Eraso. ‘This new race gives our territory even greater prominence on the international map, and we know that the fans will fill the roads, just like they do for the Women San Sebastián Classic 2021.’

More details of the 2022 races will be made public in the coming months.
